Rick Smith 
Chief Executive Officer

Since 1989, Rick Smith has been a key player at Smitty’s. He started out in sales and management, and in 1997, was elected president and CEO. His duties are to ensure the continued growth and success of the company under the direction of the Board of Directors.

Before Smitty’s, Rick was owner of Shrewsbury Hardware in Shrewsbury, PA. He also worked as supervisor in inventory control at AT&T Company in Baltimore, MD and worked as warehouse supervisor at Western Electric Company in Arlington, VA.

Jeff Smith
President

Jeff Smith has been with the company for 30 years and, in true entrepreneurial fashion, is now President of WindowSmith, and VP Commercial Sales Division.  In his current dual role, Jeff oversees the WindowSmith division and commercial sales divisions, helping to secure new business opportunities for all sales divisions and helping to negotiate with vendors on determining what product lines to carry to match customers’ needs.

Scott Smith
Senior Vice President, Alexandria Corporate Sales Manager

Since 1975, when the doors of Smitty’s Building Supply first opened, Scott Smith worked alongside his father in the management and development of Smitty’s. Scott has never lost his father’s vision for exceeding customer expectations and achieving unique levels of customer loyalty – in his role to develop new business opportunities for Smitty’s, his focus is to continue the legacy his parents started over 31 years ago.

Over the years, Scott has served in various capacities at Smitty’s: counter sales and sales management; operations and procurement; the development of the WindowSmith operation and the Industrial Division; the remodeling the Alexandria location; and the development of the cabinet line of business. Strategically, Scott is now responsible to make Smitty’s a dominant regional lumber building material yard, with value-added programs in installation and other service-related products. Under his leadership, Smitty’s will continue to demonstrate a track record of successful expansion, guided by the market’s demand of world-class products and services.

Al Mayo
Vice President Residential Sales

Al Mayo has been with Smitty’s Building Supply for over 12 years, serving in a variety of roles, including counter sales and outside sales. Today, his knowledge and experience is the driving force behind his role as vice president of residential sales. In this capacity, Al’s philosophy is that effective sales representatives are usually well motivated already, so he sees his role as more of a ‘Smitty’s coach’ than anything else. 

He is responsible for the day-to-day management of our outside sales reps, oversight of the Alexandria and Manassas counter sales reps, and setting prices on commodity products.  Al is also responsible for developing sales procedures and works closely with the reps in advising how to handle specific customer issues, such as large quotes and complex custom projects – all for the ultimate benefit of ensuring Smitty’s customers have an outstanding service experience with the organization.  

Prior to joining Smitty’s, Al was owner of Virginia Sundecks and was also sales manager for Burke Lumber.

Gary Natovitz
General Manager, WindowSmith Division

Gary Natovitz has been with Smitty’s for two years, where he serves as general manager for the WindowSmith division. With over 20 years of experience in the design, sales, production and management in the window and door industry, Gary brings a wealth of knowledge in experience to Smitty’s customers, having worked in the following departments: sales, installation, and marketing.  Previous to Smitty’s, Gary worked as retail sales manager for Pella Windows and as sales manager for Virginia Marvin Showplace.

Lynn Pedrotti
Senior Vice President 

Lynn Pedrotti has been with Smitty’s since 1988, and her knowledge and expertise has grown from merchandising, accounts receivables, marketing and finally to vice president of procurement. Her responsibilities included producing procurement of material, reviewing new items and establishing new programs and merchandising. Prior to joining Smitty’s, Lynn worked at Safeway as a produce manager, grocery manager and assistant store manager.

Pam Montano
Vice President Marketing

For the past eight years, Pam Montano has headed up Smitty’s marketing strategy and implementation – responsible for advertising, events and developing new programs that target key markets.   

Prior to her role in marketing, Pam worked at Smitty’s as credit manager and was also owner of Executive Premier Travel.

John Gendreau
Senior Vice President Shelter Systems Division 

John Gendreau has served as Executive Vice President of the Shelter Division of Smitty's Building Supply since October 2006, when Shelter Systems, LC (a company founded by John and two partners) was acquired by Smitty's.

As Executive V.P., John manages the Shelter Division as a separate sales entity within the Smitty's organization. His mission is to maintain and grow those product and service offerings that are new to the organization since the Shelter System acquisition by:

  • Overseeing the installed sales of framing packages.
  • Helping to create Northern Virginia's premier fence center at the Shelter location.
  • Maintaining a strong relationship with the Shelter customer base and promoting the broader Smitty’s product line.
  • Leading the Shelter sales team by hiring new account managers and offering extensive product- and industry-related training to employees.
  • Managing the newly created Engineered Wood & Estimating Department--Smitty's took ownership of the design, inventory, and sale of engineered wood products (I-Joists and LVL beams) in an effort to better serve our customers' needs. This higher level of expertise and more competitive pricing will add to the value Smitty's provides to its customers.
  • Prior to joining the Smitty's team, John's experience in the lumber industry spanned two decades. After graduating from James Madison University in 1981 with a BS degree in Political Science and Business Administration, he worked his way up to manager with 84 Lumber. In 1984, he went to work for Wilson Brothers, first in Fredericksburg and later in Warrenton, Virginia, where he excelled in outside sales. In 1994 he joined forces with two partners to form Shelter Systems, LC as owner and managing partner, later that same year attained his Class-A General Contractor's license in order to contract the installed framing of residential and light commercial projects.

    Michele McTighe
    Director, Information Technology

    Since December of 2000, Michele McTighe has worked at Smitty’s as Director, Information Technology.  In this role, she manages the information technology infrastructure and all its divisions.  Michele’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Defining and implementing IT strategy including application development
    • Disaster planning
    • New premises provisioning
    • Develop and maintain annual IT budget
    • Ensure adequate IT staffing
    • Establish and maintain IT 3 rd party vendor and outsourcing relationships
    • All network/server administration and helpdesk user support functions
    • Define, source and implement custom and/or third party software
    • Maintain telecommunications infrastructure, land and mobile. 


    Prior to Smitty’s Michele spent 17 years at Activant as senior field engineer and platform specialist.  She obtained an Associates degree in electrical engineering from Tampa, Florida and has multiple certificates in Microsoft products; is Dell-certified; and is a system platform specialist in the automotive and hardware industries.
